Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to make the detailed topographical map of the Meiji era using the land-register map. The area which investigation intended for is Shinji-cho, Yatsuka-gun, and Nita-cho, Nita-gun, Shimane prefecture. About some district of both towns, I gathered the image data of land-register maps which were made in the Meiji era, and made a database of lot number, place name, and land use. About Shinji-cho, next I compared lot numbers of an old land-register map with lot numbers of the new land-register map that were made based on the Country Investigation Law, and moved the data of the old land-register maps to the new one. Finally I put the new land-register map and the topographical map on top of one another, and made the detailed topographical map of the Meiji era. About Nita-cho, since the new land-register map based on the Country Investigation Law is not yet made, so by using the house lot numbers as the fixed points and taking shape of rivers and a roads into acc

ount, I made the detailed topographical map of the Meiji era. The point that became clear is as follows ; 1. As for the reduced scale of a map, a one-5000th or a one-2500th is desirable. So the base map of the detailed topographical map is the national large scale map or the forest orthodox topographic map made by Shimane prefecture. It is difficult to use the oldest one-50000th or one-25000th topographical map. 2. If there is not change of the large-scale topography by development, the method to restore the land use on a topographical map by comparing a new land-register map with an old land-register map is theoretically effective. 3. It is possible to make a detailed topographical map in the area where the new land-register map based on the Country Investigation Law is not made. But the following condition is necessary ; a little transfer of a house, a few local changes, and precision of a land-register map. 4. It is effective for analysis of an old land-register map to use image data. It is possible for expansion/reduction/a turn of a map easily by using image data. Based on result provided in this study, I intend to make such a topographical map in different other areas of a condition. Less
