Research Abstract |
A research survey has been conducted in two districts of Sri Lanka, whose samples were covered by the Samurdhi Programme, and the number of the samples is 600 in total. The survey was designed so as to enable the collected data to be comparable with those of the surveys for SEWA (Self-Employed Women's Association), India, which surveys I had conducted since 2001. Based on this survey, a database in the PC file was created, having contact with the field workers of the survey in Sri Lanka. With this database, the cross session analyses shall come next. When such databases are accumulated by successive surveys, e.g., every three years, dynamic variations can be detected through time-series analyses, and this can be a useful device for assessing the impact of Samurdhi Programme. At the same time, it can provide a platform for cross-national comparative analyses. el as factors. To find out those factors, I have studied the history of Sri Lanka, focusing on its economic aspect, and have so far produced two articles, based on this study. Mainly, "A History of Sri Lanka" by Kingsley M. de Silva (2005) is referred to. Considering easier understanding for the reader in general, many maps and a chronological table are given in the articles. To make Samurdhi more widely known among researchers and students as well, who are interested in poverty alleviation of developing countries, I organized seminar talks by Professor Dr Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, the former director of the Samurdhi Authority, in three universities. The contents of the seminar talks have been uploaded in my home page of the Internet so that more people can have access to the information. More detailed explanation of each paper is given in Section 2 of my Report on Research Results, and that of Samurdhi seminar talks in Section 3 of the Report. Less
