Research Abstract |
We have been studying, as a research project of the Japan Society of Business Mathematics, what business mathematics should be and how to teach it to students of business administration, commerce, management information and economics, whose scholastic ability in mathematics has remarkably dropped recently. We won Monbu-Kagaku-Shou's grant-in-aid 1999-2000, and 2001-2002 to study the above subjects, and won it 2005-2006 to study them from viewpoint of social requirements. We have gained following results: 1)We sent out questionnaires to 2,793 businesspersons who are working in large companies, asked them to fill out the questionnaires, interviewed businesspersons who are working in information sector, and held workshops with businesspersons, in order to comprehend social requirements for education of business mathematics in university and the actual utilization of business mathematics in business. We analyzed answers to the above questionnaires and confirmed that it is important in business to think logically and to take mathematical approaches. 2)We checked contents of a textbook which provides a grounding in mathematical and statistical techniques for business students and students on professional courses such as accounting, and found that contents and level of the textbook are almost same as Japanese elementary textbooks of university. 3)We looked into ways and materials for teaching business mathematics which are not conventional and using information equipments, and checked their availability to us. 4)We developed some materials of business mathematics and released them on internet by using a server which we bought with the grant-in-aid.
