Research Abstract |
In this study, we researched and analyzed the admission systems of university new entrants and their reform trends in East Asia countries and regions, including China, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore, which belong to so-called "a Chinese cultural sphere." Japan has experienced the reforms of university admission systems under the direction for "diversification of selection methodologies" and "multiple dimension of evaluation" to solve excessive competitions and other problems, and these countries and regions have also had the same problems and tried the similar reforms recently. The objective of our study lied in getting new viewpoints for our admission reforms by comparing our systems and policies with those of the countries and regions. We made clear the context and the transition of reforms, concrete measures, and details of each university selection procedure, etc. through literature and visits to concerned institutions, and analyzed the common or different points to our admission reforms. In the report, we particularly considered the common or different points of reforms among our country, China, Korea and Taiwan because the latter three countries and region have been actively promoted diversification of selection procedures. And we pointed out some viewpoints for our admission reforms. Our conclusion is as follow: Our country and other countries and region have been commonly promoted reforms oriented for diversification with the same contexts. Among these our current admission system has been most diversified, but also have some problems concerning guarantee of academic standard, public announcement of selection details to ensure fairness to which other countries and region attach greater importance.
