Research Abstract |
Dedicated computer system for particle accelerator wake field analysis which are based on time domain boundary element method (TDBEM) are investigated. The TDBEM gives us attractive possibility of self-consistent analysis of wake fields and charged particle motion in the next generation high energy particle accelerators, especially for analysis of coherent synchrotron radiation in bunch compressor section of the Linear Colliders. However, it was known that the TDBEM requires us extremely large storage memory and heavy computation cost, and these matters prevent us from practically applying the TDBEM to wake field analysis. During the term of this project, investigation of the dedicated computer system for the wake fields analysis was done as follows, (1) Making classification of the TDBEM scheme into two parts, process which are done in the hardware and software (2) Consideration on dedicated computer architecture of the hardware part of the TDBEM scheme (3) Detail design of the dedicated c

omputer digital circuit by using VHDL. (4) Confirmation of the normal operation of the dedicated computer by VHDL logical simulation for small size model It was confirmed that the TDBEM dedicated computer system can be realized by the above works if enough amount of hardware parts such as memory, FPGA are prepared. In addition to the consideration on the hardware system for the TDBEM, another efforts for the large storage memory problems in the TDBEM scheme was also done from the software viewpoints. The conventional (implicit) TDBEM scheme was modified to explicit scheme and so-called "window option" technique was applied to the TDBEM. To do this modification, wake fields analysis for practical particle accelerator cavity models such as the TESLA 9 cell structure (DESY) can be done by the TDBEM scheme. It will be future works to achieve high performance computer system by combining the dedicated computer system and the modified TDBEM software, and apply the computer system to particle dynamics in real bunch compressors.
