Research Abstract |
1. These following items were found as important factors for the area management by urban renewal projects, from the analysis of the existing data and the survey by the case studies in Japan, Switzerland, Germany, and UK, Such as Network, Vision, Citizen Participatory Process, Care for Environment. Land Use, Design Guide, Quality of Open Space, Area Identity, Regional Context. For this analysis the comparison of the area management of urban renewal projects at industrial sites was conducted at these following sites: Higashi-Gotanda and Toyosu (Tokyo), MM21, Port-Side, together with Bank-Art program (Yokohama), Soga (Chiba), Central Zone (Kawaguchi), and Zurich-West, Zurich-Nord (Zurich), SulzerAreal, SulzerPark (Winterthur), SIG (Neuhausen), Dreispitz Areal (Basel). 2. To find the issue and challenge of the Town Management Organization by the Town Center Enhancement Project for the betterment of area management, we surveyed the case of Saga city. As a result, the process of bottom up approach would be necessary collaborating different organizations including NPOs. 3. A questionnaire research was conducted to the municipalities which had ever had urban renewal projects. 10 % of the 193 municipalities which answered to the questionnaire have the area management organization, but most municipalities recognized the importance of any, area management. 4. From these case studies, the importance of these following issues are made clear for the area management of urban renewal projects: 1)Consistent Management System with Flexible and Dynamic Planning; 2)Contribution for Environment and Urban Ecological Network; 3)Social Process Generating Public-Private Partnership and Network; 4)Contextual Identity and Creativity.
