Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的である、直流電流による非平衡定常状態(Non-Equilibrium Steady State; NESS)で創発する新現象の開拓とその機構解明に向けた研究を進め、以下の成果を挙げた。
◆ルテニウム層状酸化物Ca2RuO4におけるNESSでのモット・ギャップの減少と、それに伴って発現する巨大反磁性誘起に関し、新たな概念であるモット半金属としての理解を深めた。また、東北大学金属材料研究所の附属強磁場超伝導材料研究センターに出向いて強磁場中交流磁化率測定を行い、巨大反磁性の再現に成功した。さらに、米国Stony Brook大学との国際共同研究で、走査型近接場顕微鏡を用いて電流下での金属・絶縁体相境界の微細構造を明らかにした。この成果論文はPhys. Rev. X誌に出版された。
◆2層系ルテニウム酸化物Ca3(Ru1-xTix)2O7において、電流のオン・オフによって低温での導電性および磁性のスイッチングができることを明らかにした。Ca2RuO4と比較して、反磁性が出現する類似性と、磁気秩序の安定性に関する相違点を明らかにした。また、電流密度対温度の物性状態相図を明らかにした。これらの研究成果を取りまとめて投稿した論文(arXiv:1902.02515)は、Phys. Rev. Lett.誌に掲載されることが決まった。
◆NESSでのルテニウム酸化物で我々が発見した現象の一般性を明らかにするために、ルテニウム酸化物以外のモット絶縁体での同様の現象を探索した。
◆2018年7月の磁性国際会議(ICM-2018, San Francisco)にて、Sowが本研究成果に関する口頭講演を行った。また、9月には北京大学での国際会議でもSowが招待講演を行った。
