| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In Europe, mobility has increased, driven by the development of transportation infrastructure at diverse scales and boosted by multilevel policies. The case studies from the United Kingdom, France, and Austria-Germany show that the increase in mobility has involved rural villages, increasing the number of visitors and length of stay in rural areas and increasing rural migration. They come to rural villages for the rurality: landscape and tranquility, and they enjoy the amenities that rural villages offer. And their activities in rural villages, such as renovating their dwellings and interacting with former residents, created new ruralities.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
ヨーロッパにおける農村への来訪者、ひいては農村移住者の増加の背景にはモビリティの増大があることを明らかにした。日本においては、農村における人口流出・減少が問題となっているが、このことは、モビリティが農村も含めた領域において増大することで、農村への来訪が増大する可能性を示唆する。モビリティ増大のための、交通インフラの整備、すなわち近接性の増大を図る政策が重要であることもまた明らかである。
