Outline of Annual Research Achievements

天文学の基盤をなす恒星進化研究に変革の時が訪れている。大質量星の生涯最期の爆発である超新星の観測を通し、大質量星の多くが終末期最後の100年の間に劇的な進化を遂げるという新描像が確立されつつある。超新星爆発機構の理論研究からは、さらに短い時間スケールで起こる、動的・突発的現象を含んだ進化過程の重要性が認識されつつある。本課題では、異なる分野の専門家の協力のもと、以下を遂行する。(1)爆発直後の観測から恒星最期の一年に迫る。(2)超新星爆発機構の理論から恒星最期の一年に迫る。(3)親星、質量放出、超新星の相互の関係の確立による恒星終末期の包括的理解。
(1)に関して、理論・観測的に様々な進展があった。超新星ショックブレークアウトを可視光ではじめて検出したほか(前田・守屋)、ALMA望遠鏡(電波)とGemini望遠鏡(可視)による爆発直後の超新星の観測提案が採択された(PI:前田)。爆発直前の質量放出により作られる星周物質の性質を解明するための光度曲線や偏光理論モデルを提出した(前田・守屋)。また、重力レンズ効果を用いて超新星が発生する位置と時刻を予測する手法を提案し、爆発直後の超新星観測の新たな可能性を開拓した(諏訪)。
(2)に関して、本年度は理論的には大質量星崩壊に伴いブラックホールを形成する場合に着目した理論計算の成果を複数発表した(前田・守屋)。また、通常の超新星爆発の現象論的モデルを構築したほか(諏訪・前田)、爆発機構の理解を目指し超新星残骸のX線観測を推進した(勝田)。
(3)に関して、連星進化シナリオから予想される親星と星周物質の間の関係を明らかにし、恒星末期進化における連星進化の役割の観測可能性を提案した(前田)。大質量星の進化と周辺環境の関係の観測を推進したほか、超新星を起こす親星の質量範囲を銀河化学進化の観点から制限した(前田)。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

(1)特に特筆すべき成果として、大質量星が超新星爆発を起こした際の最初の電磁波である”ショックブレークアウト”をはじめて可視で検出した(Bersten et al. 2018, Nature)。爆発直前の恒星風などにより形成される星周物質と超新星放出物質との衝突が光度曲線へ与える影響を明らかにし(Moriya et al. 2018)、星周物質が超新星からの放射を受けて偏光を引き起こす可能性を指摘した(Nagao et al. 2017, 2018)。また、爆発から1か月程度たった後に星周物質との激しい衝突を起こす超新星を発見した(Kuncarayakti et al. 2018)。重力レンズ効果を用いて、爆発直後の超新星を発見する手法を確立した(Suwa 2018)。また、爆発直後の超新星を観測するプログラムを策定し、ALMA望遠鏡(電波)およびGemini望遠鏡(可視)で採択された。
(2)大質量星崩壊に伴いブラックホールを形成する場合の系の進化を記述する理論モデルを確立し(Hayakawa & Maeda 2018)、予測される光度曲線モデルを提案した(Moriya et al. 2018)。超新星爆発機構に制限を与える目的で超新星残骸観測を遂行した(Katsuda et al. 2018)。
(3)新たな連星進化モデルを提出し、超新星親星と爆発直前の質量放出により形成される星周物質に強い関係が期待されることを明らかにした(Ouchi & Maeda 2017)。異なる親星を反映した異なるタイプの超新星について、周辺環境の観測から親星と周辺環境に関係があることを明らかにした(Kuncarayakti et al. 2018)。銀河化学進化の観点から超新星爆発を起こす親星質量に制限を与えた(Suzuki & Maeda 2018)。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

(1)観測研究としては、ALMA望遠鏡、Gemini望遠鏡による観測を推進するほか、2018年度に稼働予定の京都大学3.8m望遠鏡を用いた爆発直後の超新星観測プログラムを策定・推進する。理論研究として、超新星爆発直後の可視スペクトル計算の手法を開発しており、現在テスト計算を行っている。これをさらに推進する。また、電波・X線における爆発直後の非熱放射の理論計算を推進する。
(2)超新星爆発の現象論的モデルを完成させ、さらに元素合成的特徴から爆発機構に制限をつける可能性を追求する。超新星残骸の観測から爆発機構に制限を与える手法をさらに開拓するとともに、多波長・多モード観測を推進する。
(3)現在、爆発直前の恒星終末期における力学的進化の計算手法を開発しており、テスト計算を行っている。これをさらに推進し、爆発直前の激しい恒星進化を観測的に明らかにするための理論モデル提出を目指す。
