Outline of Final Research Achievements

We obtained large enantiopure single crystals of inorganic chiral magnetic compounds CsCuCl3 and TSi (T: transition metal). We observe anomalous nonreciprocal phenomena as magneto-chiral dichroism (MChD) of CsCuCl3 and electrical magnetochiral effect (eMCh) of CrNb3S6. We performed neutron scattering experiments of CsCuCl3 and CrNb3S6, and observed theoretically predicted new magnetic phases.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

無機キラル磁性体は、新しい原理による巨大磁気光学効果や巨大磁気抵抗効果が理論的に提案されているが、結晶キラリティを単一にすることが大前提となる。しかし、殆どの無機キラル磁性体は、右結晶と左結晶が試料内に混在したラセミ双晶を形成する為、研究の対象とならなかった。本研究成果は不斉結晶育成手法の確立を含む為、これまで研究の対象とならなかった物質にも光が当てられ、多彩なキラル物性観測のための基礎となることが期待される。
