| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In order to develop biodiversity education in Japan, this research project conducts comparative research studies in environmentally advanced countries overseas, in which people have high environmental awareness and environmental education policies are advanced. Focusing on biodiversity education led by nature museums and zoos in those countries, we will conduct comparative research based on field surveys. Together with six co-investigators, we visited and surveyed more than 20 zoos, aquariums, and natural history museums in Japan and overseas. As a result of the collection of materials obtained from field surveys, it was found that landscape design, whose exhibition design is progressing from the viewpoint of animal welfare, has a great educational effect as a remarkable feature of biodiversity conservation education in environmentally advanced countries.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
生物多様性は国際的機関と国内学術機関から提言される，社会を担う人々に育成したい新しいリテラシーである。この育成を目指して先駆的海外の事例を精査して知見を得ようとする本研究は，現代的課題への取り組みと教育的観点への実質的応用の意義を備える。またわが国において，自然系博物館や動物園が，生物多様性情報の収集・蓄積・情報発信の知的拠点施設として大きな意義と可能性を有していることは認識されている一方で，教育的活用を効果的にはかる手立てが見えていない。環境先進国における事例を複数調査することにより，現在日本で具体的知見の乏しい，生物多様性教育のあり方に実質的，新規的で有用なアプローチの仕方を提示する。
