Outline of Final Research Achievements |
There were many reasons for the “regeneration of early music” in France in the late 19th Century, but it appears that unique religious circumstances in France at the time played a role. This research sought to clarify the background of this regeneration, focusing on Vincent d’Indy, the French composer who was one of the founding members of the Schola Cantorum. The findings of this research reveal that early music restoration activities paved the way for a golden period in French music, especially due to the relationship between the act of listening to early music and modern French harmony and that between the restoration of baroque opera and the philosophical tidal current of Wagnerism and Debussyism. The research also reveals that the freedom from religious-secular boundaries in d’Indy's musical education and activities were extremely significant for the rise of this golden period.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
