Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の最終目標は、量子輻射圧雑音の低減技術を実際の大型重力波検出器に導入し、重力波に対する感度向上に役立てることである。これは、量子測定の手法を巨視系である大型重力波検出器に適用することで実際の天文学的成果に貢献するという意義のある研究である。2019年度はとくに、大型重力波検出器に適用するという点の研究を重点的に行った。
具体的には、次のようなことを行った。量子輻射圧雑音が感度を制限するような現代の重力波検出器のレーザー干渉計は、複数の光共振器や干渉計が複雑にカップルしているため、カップルした複数の長さ自由度を動作点に制御し続ける必要がある。これらの制御信号は動作点のまわりの極めて狭い領域でしか意味のある信号でないため、全ての自由度がばらばらに動いている状態から全自由度を動作点へ引き込む手法を確立することは、本研究における非自明かつ重要なステップである。本研究において、このステップ、すなわち大型重力波検出器の干渉計の動作点引き込みを確立した。
さらに具体的に述べれば、大型低温重力波望遠鏡KAGRAの動作点引き込みを、新しいグリーンロックの手法で達成・確立し、KAGRAをPRFPMIと呼ばれる干渉計構成で動作させることに成功した。さらに、本研究で確立した動作点引き込みの手法について得られた特性評価から、さらに量子雑音の低減技術が重要となる次世代の重力波検出器における動作点引き込み法を世界に先駆けて議論し、新規な引き込み法を提案した。
