Outline of Annual Research Achievements

一重項分裂(singlet fission,SF)は一つの励起一重項状態から2つの三重項状態を形成する反応で、太陽電池の効率を引き上げる方法として注目されている。SFはスピン許容遷移であり、まず一重項状態の三重項励起子ペア1(TT)が形成される。次にそれが五重項状態5(TT)へと変換され、実際に時間分解電子スピン共鳴(TREPR)法で観測されている(Weiss et al., Nature Physics 2017, Tayebjee et al., Nature Physics 2017)。多重励起子が五重項状態を形成することは重要で、S0 + S0状態への失活や、逆反応である三重項三重項消滅(TTA)によるS1 + S0状態の再生が、一重項状態1(TT)の場合と比べてより抑制されている。そのため1(TT)から5(TT)へのスピン変換は太陽電池、発光デバイス、アップコンバージョン材料などの応用への鍵となる過程であり、スピン変換機構の解明が重要である。
本研究では, 時間分解電子スピン共鳴計測を行い、五重項状態の形成を確認した。凝集体や結晶においては, 三重項励起子対が分子のオーダーした領域においてピコ秒-ナノ秒のスケールで移動することにより、全体として一重項状態にあった励起子対から五重項状態励起子対へと変換するS-Qミキシング(一重項-五重項混合)反応が起こっていると提案した。このような機構は溶液における凝集体や金ナノ粒子表面にSF材料を結合させたような系において重要であることを明らかにした. またSF材料の二量体における五重項状態の観測から、励起子が動かない系で五重項形成が一種の緩和効果によるとするモデルを提案した. 以上の成果をThe Journal of Physical Chemistry Cなどにおいて発表した.
