Outline of Annual Research Achievements

惑星形成の第一歩は、原始星周囲に形成される原始惑星系円盤において、マイクロメートル・サイズのダストからキロメートル・サイズの微惑星を形成することである。しかし、微惑星の形成過程は未だ謎に包まれており、惑星形成論における長年の未解決問題となっている。本研究の目的は、最新のダスト光学特性理論を原始惑星系円盤の観測に適用し、観測量の観点から微惑星形成過程を検証することである。

今年度は、近年ALMA望遠鏡によって急速に観測が進展している円盤由来のミリ波散乱偏波に着目した研究を実施した。光散乱過程はダストの構造に強く依存するため、ミリ波散乱偏波という観測量から微惑星形成にとって重要なダストの構造を制限するという狙いである。そこで、円盤の3次元輻射輸送シミュレーションを実行し、ダストの構造が観測されるミリ波偏波にどのような影響を及ぼすかについて理論的に調べた。その結果、我々はミリ波散乱偏波が観測されるためには、高い内部密度を持つダストが円盤内に存在している必要があることを示した。さらに、円盤内でのダストの破壊効率と観測される偏波の関係についても調査した。その結果、観測から示唆されるダスト半径は、ダストを効率的に破壊するモデルによって再現可能であることもわかってきた。以上より、我々は「円盤ダストは、効率的な破壊が起こらず、低密度な内部構造を保ちながら成長する」という従来の微惑星形成理論の描像を覆し、円盤では「ダストは効率的に破壊され、高密度な内部構造を持ちながら成長する」ということを明らかにした。本研究成果は微惑星形成過程の理解を大きく前進させる成果であり、2編の論文が査読付きの国際学術誌から出版された。
