磁性トポロジカル絶縁体超格子における新奇電気磁気応答の創成

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

分子線エピタキシー法を用いて非磁性トポロジカル絶縁体と磁性トポロジカル絶縁体や強磁性絶縁体とのヘテロ構造を作製し、磁気輸送や磁気光学現象の開拓を行った。それにより、主に次の二つの成果が得られた。
(1)半磁性トポロジカル絶縁体におけるパリティ異常の実証
グラフェンなどの二次元物質とは異なり、トポロジカル絶縁体の表面状態は単一のディラック電子状態で理解される。単一のディラック電子が質量をもつと、時間反転対称性とともにパリティ対称性が破れるというパリティ異常を生じることが知られている。このパリティ異常の帰結の一つに、半整数量子ホール効果がある。今回、トポロジカル絶縁体上面の表面状態のみに、磁性による質量誘起を行った半磁性トポロジカル絶縁体(非磁性トポロジカル絶縁体/磁性トポロジカル絶縁体の二層構造)作製した。テラヘルツ分光、輸送測定によって単一の質量をもったディラック電子状態のホール伝導度を測定することで、ゼロ磁場に半整数に量子化されたファラデー効果やホール効果を観測した。この半整数量子化は温度やフェルミ準位、試料サイズに対してロバストであることが分かった。この結果はパリティ異常を凝縮系において実現した初めての例となる。
(2)強磁性絶縁体/トポロジカル絶縁体積層構造における電流誘起磁化反転
層状強磁性絶縁体Cr2Ge2Te6をトポロジカル絶縁体と接合させることによって、トポロジカル表面状態への磁気近接効果による巨大な異常ホール効果が得られている。今回、トポロジカル表面状態の持つスピン偏極性を利用した電流誘起による表面磁性のスイッチングを行った。このとき、Cr2Ge2Te6の磁化反転を生じるとともに、表面状態の磁化方向が変化することで、表面状態の持つ磁性に伴うトポロジーを変化させることができる。今後この特性を用いた非散逸流の低消費スイッチング素子への展開が期待される。
