IRサーモグラフィ/PIVを駆使した液滴内の熱的不安定性対流の物理解明

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年度,本特別研究員が英国エジンバラ大学にて行った,濡れ性を制御した面での液滴挙動に関する実験に対する解析を行った.高速度カメラで撮影した液滴挙動を画像解析し,超撥水パターンを施した面上を液滴がどのように移動する過程を詳細に明らかにした.また,画像から液滴がもつ表面自由エネルギーの時間的変化を計算し,液滴は自由エネルギーが小さくなる方向へ移動することを示し,さらにそのエネルギーは指数関数的減衰に従うことが分かった.また,接触角ヒステリシスによる液滴移動に対するエネルギー障壁を有限要素解析により見積り,液滴が自発的に移動するための条件を熱力学的に示した.これらの結果を論文としてまとめ,当該分野の有力紙である王立化学協会のSoft matterに発表した.また,平成30年5月に札幌で開催された日本伝熱シンポジウムで本成果を発表し,優秀プレゼンテーション賞を受賞した.さらに本特別研究員は,共同研究先のエジンバラ大学が主導するEU Horizon 2020の国際プロジェクトの年次ワークショップ(平成30年12月,中国・天津)に基調講演として招待され,本研究の成果を発表した.ワークショップに参加した,欧州・北米・中国の研究者と有意義なディスカッションを行った.産業界からは欧州のマイクロ流体デバイス関連企業も参加し,ディスカッションを通して液滴移動やマランゴニ対流を利用したミキシングなどの応用へのポテンシャルを見出すことができた.
