| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
At the beginning of the 20th century, a long-term accumulated academic research has showed the most flourishing time in the theatrical activities, well-known as the Irish Renaissance. Lady Gregory's energetic devotion, with W. B. Yeats J. M. Synge, led the movement into a fruitful embodiment of their ideal national literature, and produced their major literary works. The purpose of this study is both to examine how Lady Gregory's gathering works and develops into the core of the movement in terms of a cultural point of view and to compare the cultural activities with the 18th century British salons and Lady Gregory's gatherings. Generally aristocratic social activities in the salons are considered as the communicative sphere of high society. They have, however, strong social influence on modern cultural development. Women, in particular, begin to emerge in the social, political and cultural world, presenting their own voices and ideas. This study attempts to depict their new voice.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
19世紀末から20世紀初頭のアイルランドにおける文芸復興運動に関わるグレゴリ夫人の貢献はすでに一般的に認められている。夫人を中心としたイェイツやシングたちの研究蓄積は豊富にあり、さらにそれに関する研究は、現在でも広く推進されている。しかしながら、その活動の発端をサロン活動に求め、グレゴリ夫人を核とした文芸サロンが社会的な文化活動の視点から考察を試みる点に本研究の意義があると思われる。さらに、19世紀ビクトリア朝の倫理観を鑑みると、アイルランドにおける女性の社会的活動を文学、特に演劇領域に絞り、英国との比較を試みながら、女性の活躍とその業績、また新しい表現の斬新さを明らかにしようと努めた。
