| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study has two aims. First it intends to describe the position/status of the Nyoin, established in the mid-Heian era, within the imperial family. By collecting historical materials featuring the establishment of the Nyoins, this study tries to clarify the aim of each monarch in establishing the position/status of the Nyoin. Among the historical materials collected, this study reprinted the IngoSadameBuruiki for the first time, and published it as a report.
Secondly, this study clarified the characteristics of each monarch, by examining the twelve Nyoins described in the above-mentioned historical materials. As the Nyoins were established under the differing policy aims of each monarch at the time, an examination of both the status/position of the Nyoin and the contemporary political situation was investigated.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究の重要な研究成果の一つは、初期女院たちが女院になった前後の様子について記す「院号定部類記」という史料の諸本研究とその翻刻を行ったことである。従来まとまった翻刻がなかったが、これにより遅れがちであった女院そのものの研究の発展が大いに期待できる。また「院号定部類記」のなかには、現存しない古記録も含まれるため、逸文研究などの発展にも寄与するものとなる。
さらに史料から各女院に関する基礎情報を抽出して整理し、各女院を創出した王権とその周辺や、女院になる前後の政治状況を概観して、各女院を創出した要因を検討した。これらの基礎情報や検討結果は、この時期の政治史研究の進展にも寄与するものである。
