Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research aims to confirm regional migration trends by sex, generation, age, and region of origin, and to identify factors that affect regional migration (emigration) from rural areas and regional migration to rural areas (immigrants, homecomings, and population repatriation). For the purpose, we constructed an integrated database based on aggregate-level open data, constructed an integrated database using individual-level data, and conducted statistical analysis based on these. As a result, (1) while the gender gap in regional migration (emigration) from rural areas has disappeared, the gender gap in regional migration (immigration, homecoming, population repatriation) to rural areas persists, and (2) the gender gap in returning home is brought about by gender occupational segregation and regional uneven distribution of occupations.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
地方圏から都市圏への人口流出や地方圏への人口還流(いわゆるUターン、Iターン、Jターン、Oターン)については、多くの研究の蓄積がなされてきたが、日本の女性や家族の移動に関する研究は乏しく、欧米の知見の妥当性も十分に検証されてこなかった。本研究の学術的意義は人口流出や人口還流に関するジェンダー要因を明らかにした点にある。 日本の農山村コミュニティは、人口減少と少子高齢化により、深刻な存続の危機に直面している。人口の地域移動はそうした危機をもたらす直接的要因の一つである。本研究の知見はこうした状況の解明と政策的対応にも貢献すると考えられる。
