Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to clarify as extensively and accurately as possible the status of classical materials in prewar secondary school Japanese language textbooks. In the course of the research, we clarified issues left unresolved by previous studies and argued for the necessity of creating a database of the table of contents of prewar secondary school Japanese language textbooks as a new research topic. As a basis for this work, we compiled a list of prewar Japanese language textbooks from high schools for girls and from teachers' and business schools, and clarified some aspects of the publication status of prewar secondary school Japanese language textbooks. We also focused on Japanese language textbooks that were widely used and published in multiple editions during this period, and analyzed the inclusion of classical materials in these textbooks.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究において提示した戦前期中等学校国語教科書目次データベースは、実現すれば、戦前期の中等教育における国語教材の詳細な実態を知る有力なツールとなりうるものであり、今後も共同的な研究が行われることが期待されるものである。また、古典教材の採録状況についての研究は、単に過去の教科書の実態を知るということにとどまらず、近年しばしば行われている、国語教育において古典教材を学ぶ意義についての議論に一石を投じるものとなると考えている。
