Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we have not only clarified the synthesis, X-ray crystal structure, spectroscopic properties, and electrochemical properties of Ruthenium complexes with novel NAD+-type or NADH-type ligands based on a new molecular design, but also successfully elucidated the unique photo-driven organic hydride storage reaction mechanism from the NAD+-type Ruthenium complex to the NADH-type Ruthenium complex.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

補酵素の機能を範とした光エネルギーを化学エネルギー(有機ヒドリド)として貯蔵可能な新しい錯体分子を合成単離することができ、可視光照射によるNAD+型からNADH型ルテニウム錯体への光有機ヒドリド貯蔵反応に関して知見を得ることができた。これらの研究成果は、二酸化炭素を多電子還元し得る高活性な錯体触媒の開発につながり、学術的に大きなインパクトを与えるに留まらず、資源・環境・エネルギー問題の抜本的解決にも多大な貢献が見込まれる。
