Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research project aimed at clarifying the position of Japanese folk song (min’yo) in Japanese life and figuring out the social network of amateur folk song performers in Akita prefecture by participant observation and interview. This research obtains the following results; (1) Japanese folk song has been modernized as a stage performance also in Akita, (2) there is some diversity in the history and management system of folk song contests in Akita, (3) the beginning and motivation of singing Japanese folk song are significantly different between younger and older singers, (4) the node of a social network of amateur folk song singers seems local lessons they join, but it extends over other prefectures, (5) presentational performance seems prevailed in Japanese folk song, while participatory performance remains and they are practiced in a different type of “ba” (a place with agency).

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究の学術的意義として、民俗学的民謡研究が等閑視してきた現代の民謡の姿を具体的事例から明らかにしたこと、地縁・血縁といった概念と結びつけられやすい農村部にも趣味によって結びつけられた社会的ネットワークすなわち「趣味の共同体」があるということ、そして民謡の「場」の重要性と多様性を明確に示した点にある。 また本研究の社会的意義は、ステージ上で歌うのが基本になっている現代民謡に対して、伝統的な民謡とも異なる民謡の姿を例示することを通じて民謡の幅広さを示し、衰退の一途をたどる民謡の現代的可能性を示した点にある。
