| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The conclusive aim of my research is to understand how the secular art developed in the Occident of the late middle ages. The current research focuses on the Alsatian secular tapestries at that time and analyzes their iconographic features not only through the formal aspects but also through the perspective of the cultural milieu.
An examination of the corpus created in this study reveals that the "wild man" was one of the most important subjects in the Alsatian tapestries. Furthermore, the iconographic analysis points out that Strasbourg tapestries in the first half of the fifteenth century occupied a prominent place in the development of the image of the wild man from the fifteenth century onward.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
西洋中世の世俗美術研究は、宗教美術研究に比して十分になされてきたとは言い難く、また、中世末期のアルザスの世俗主題のタピスリー群に特化した体系的な研究もなされていなかったため、その実態を解明すること自体、美術史学の重要な基礎研究であったといえる。
西洋文化における「野人」の表象に関しては、文学史、文化史、そして美術史等の領域で研究の蓄積があったが、本研究では新たに、その図像変遷における15世紀前半のストラスブールのタピスリーの位置づけと意義を具体的に示すことができ、これは隣接諸学科の研究進展にも寄与する成果と考える。
