Outline of Final Research Achievements

The establishment of a disease-specific and effective therapy for lumbar spinal stenosis is a major issue. The purpose of this study was to generate an animal model that can be used to elucidate molecular biological pathology and to determine drug effects in accordance with the pathology of human lumbar spinal stenosis. The animal model in this study is intended to induce degeneration of spine column by resection of intervertebral joint of rats, to chronically develop lumbar spinal stenosis such as hypertrophy of the yellow ligament.
The rats were anesthetized, and intervertebral joint was removed to induce instability. In the experiments of Rotarod behavioral analysis, our data suggests that the walking time is shortened by intervertebral joint resection, which is a clinical symptom of intermittent claudication. In the future, it is necessary to examine the degree of thickening of the yellow ligament in histological studies.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
