Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research attempts to clarify the state of the court costume and its surrounding culture by analyzing picture scrolls from the Heian period to the Kamakura period. Mainly on the national treasure "Genji Monogatari Emaki" and "Murasakishikibu Nikki Emaki", we made a database of the costumes and furnishings depicted in the emaki. From this, we were able to confirm some points that the costumes and furnishings from the Heian era to the Kamakura era had different shapes and specifications from those currently considered. In addition, by utilizing this database, new questions and clarifications will be made. It will be clear that the way of wearing costumes during the Heian and Kamakura eras is also different from the present.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
