Outline of Final Research Achievements |
By comparing publicly available genomes of Helicobacter pylori, we identified geographical region-specific or universally shared genomic rearrangements. We also identified a reference strain in terms of the ordering of core genes. Through the survey of glyco-enzymes within publicly available genomes of Bifidobacterium species, we identified the relationship between the dietary habits and contents of host animals and the metabolic capability of polysaccharides.

公共データベースには多種多様な微生物のゲノムが公開されており、同じ種であっても含まれる遺伝子の内訳が菌株毎に数百も異なりうる。そのように類似したゲノムが数百以上あたえられた際、それらを効率よく比較して共通する機能や特徴を見出す作業は「種とはなにか」「なぜ種にわかれるのか」を考える上で重要である。その具体例として、ゲノム構造を比較したり糖代謝能を比較する方法論を見出し、実データに応用した。
