Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Joint contractures are a major complication following injuries in central nervous system or joint immobilization. However, no effective treatment has been developed so far. In the present study, we aimed to develop a novel therapeutic approach for joint contractures using transcutaneous carbon dioxide absorption. Our findings indicate that transcutaneous carbon dioxide may improve knee range of motion after injuries central nervous system or joint immobilization. We also revealed that transcutaneous carbon dioxide decreases muscular and articular fibrosis, thereby improving knee joint contracture.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
