Research Abstract

(1)内臓リーシュマニア症(VL症)の早期発見のための診断法を開発した。尿を用いた免疫診断法と、原虫由来DNAを検出する遺伝子診断法(LAMP法)である。バングラデシュ・マメンシン地区の4,800人の調査から、この地区では年間約7%の住民がLeishmania原虫の感染を受け、その約半数がVL症を発症すると推定できた。(2)VL症を媒介するサシチョウバエの種を、これまでの形態学的な方法に代わり、遺伝子によって同定する方法を確立した。原虫の有無を調べる遺伝子検査法と組み合わせることで、広範囲にわたる流行地のサシチョウバエ調査を効率的に行うことができた。
