Research Abstract |
Head Investigator's object was the preparation towards the publication of, The Text (based on the direct investigation of medieval manuscripts), Introduction and Commentaries of "Dearte", by anonymous 5^<th> Century Greek Prose writer, included in the Corpus Hippocraticum. As a report of the Study-project, the Head Investigator published a proto-type version of the book, equipped with the Introduction to the writing, Text with apparatus criticus, and philological notes on problematic texts. Though researches to the lexical exegesis of the texts which was roughly established still remain, to be given the final-form as a book to be published, The basis was built. The part of the proto-type version, the Introduction, will be read at the XIIIth International Colloquium Hippocraticum, held at University of Texs at Austin, August, 2008. The name of the Investigator and the title of the paper can be read in the homepage of the Colloquium. Through these two years of the project Philological Society, which is being directed by the Head Investigator of this project, made a steady progress, in its number of the participants and in its quality of the articles which were published in the Society's Journal, "Philologica" (vol.1 and vol.2 were published within the period of the project, and vol.3 is under printing at the moment). Our Country is full of classical texts (in Japanese Letters, Chinese Letters, and in Indian Letters), which need philological investigations to be read and understood correctly. One of the purposes of the society's activities is to help these fields of classical studies to understand the importance and the method of European Classical Philology. This part of the project was particularly successful with 5 meetings (two regular and three irregular) with participants from all over the country.
