Research Abstract |
In this study, we focused the dynamic behavior of a flexible beam when it is transported by rollers with elastic support. The modeling methodology for the numerical simulation of a transported flexible beam that passes thorough the couple of rollers with elastic support is proposed using both the finite segment method and absolute nodal coordinate formulation. The simulation results ensures that the proposed modeling method attains the important dynamic features in the parametric instability in the beam such as continuous change in the beam length with time and the rapid increase in the transverse vibration when the reciprocating frequency of the beam is closed to twice of natural frequency. The effect of the reciprocating amplitude and frequency, which are the important parameters in designs of the concerned applications, are also discussed. The larger reciprocating amplitude and the closer to the twice-natural frequency lead to more significant increase in the transverse vibration.
