Research Abstract

植民地宗主国からではない、太平洋の島々から見た太平洋世界の表象における、日本文化のかかわりと意義を明らかにした。南洋群島ミクロネシアを訪れた中島敦は島の人々の世界観を問題とし、ハワイの日系人作家達はローカルな世界観を描くハワイ文学の中心にいる。南太平洋を代表する作家であるサモア出身のアルバート・ウェントやハワイ作家達は日本文化に注目する。こうした新しい表象を試みる作家達は、白人と黒人の問の恋愛・結婚・混血に関する伝統的な物語を様々に書き換えており、本研究はその系譜と意義を示した。
