| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In East Asia, historical research has been done within the framework of national history. As a result, sport in Imperial Japan as well as sport in post-colonial East Asia has never seen in its entirety. In addition, being excluded from national histories of both Japan and China, little has been known about the sport in Manchuria.
By focusing on sport in Manchuria, this study filled the geographical gap in sport history and provided an overall picture of sport in Imperial Japan.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
東アジアでは、スポーツ史研究だけでなく、スポーツ界そのものが国ごとに分断されてきた。日中韓の激しいライバル意識は、競技力の向上をもたらす一方で、スポーツ界をこえたさまざまな軋轢や摩擦を生んできた。帝国日本のスポーツを明らかにすることで、東アジアの分断をもたらしたメカニズムを理解し、その解決に役立てることができるであろう。
