Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は、「もう一つの世界」を追求する社会運動の多様性を比較検討することによって、これらの運動が提唱する新しい価値観に基づく「ポスト新自由主義時代」の社会とはどのようなものなのか、その可能性と限界はどこにあるのかを探求することである。研究計画は、（１）全世界の社会運動の多様性や潮流を把握するための量的データ解析と、（２）世界各地域の社会運動研究の質的比較事例研究とを組み合わせたものである。また、グローバル化に対抗する社会運動の地域的・社会階層的・戦略的・思想的な多様性を包括的に理解するために様々な地域の専門家が参加する国際共同研究である。

2020年度は、5月にアメリカのTulane大学の共同研究者と共同で「Latin American Popular Politics Workshop」をオンラインで実施した。世界的な新型コロナウイルスの流行の影響により、当初予定していたフィールドワークを実施する見通しがつきにくくなっていることから、フィールドに赴くことができなくても実施できる研究方法を主体に国際共同研究プロジェクトを継続することとし、ラテンアメリカ地域の社会運動・抗議行動研究に焦点をあてることとした。

2021年度は、4月に東京大学グローバル地域研究機構主催のグローバル・スタディーズ・セミナーにて本研究プロジェクトの中核をなす理論と方法論に関する研究成果を発表した。続けて5月には、オンライン開催のLatin American Studies Associationの年次大会にて本プロジェクトのパネルを組織し、ラテンアメリカ地域10か国の国際共同研究の進捗状況の報告会を行った。さらに、社会運動研究に関するワークショップを東京大学ラテンアメリカ研究センターにて7回実施した。研究補助者の協力を得てデータベース構築作業を継続している。

Reason

新型コロナの流行という当初予期しないことが起きたが、最終的に研究の焦点や手法を調整することによって、計画をおおむね順調に継続させることができ、本研究を前に進めることができたからである。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

新型コロナウイルスの世界的な流行がいつまで続くのかが見通せないため、当初想定していた対面型の国際共同研究を企画することが難しくなっているので、ZOOMなどをを用いた仮想空間での打ち合わせや研究報告を中心にして共同研究を進めていく。とくに、インタビュー調査などの質的調査方法を用いた事例研究を実施すること自体が難しい状態であることから、フィールド調査を必要としない抗議行動のイベント分析という量的調査に重点を置くことにする。ラテンアメリカ10か国を対象とする国際共同研究体制を整備することができたので、今後はこの体制を中心にして、本研究の量的分析を予定よりも早く完成させる。2022年度にはその成果を英語書籍の形で大学出版会の審査に提出することを目標としたい。
