| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Through this research project, we have successfully accomplished a survey/interview research in Yokkaichi City, and the third time survey research in Toyota City, whereas a part of the scheduled plan was delayed or cancelled because of covid-19 pandemic. Because of the research data and the subsequent analysis we were able to specify more about the ‘community-based’ characters in social ties, consciousness, and various collective actions of the residents; caused by the stable employment and residence. However, the past privileged situation is gradually changing due to the strengthening of global competition and demographic changes in Toyota.Most Environmental activities are also driven by community-based groups in Yokkaichi. Thus, the unique character of the advanced industrial cities/regions is explained from the theoretical point of view as well, which has been almost overlooked by the Chicago School urban sociology and the Marxian new urban sociology.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究を通じて、経済のグローバル化と人口構造の変化が、先進産業地域の社会構造、住民意識、集合行為に及ぼす影響を実証し、開発と定住の経緯を踏まえた生活環境とまちづくりの関係を示した。理論面では、長期間発展した産業都市で「規則的/規制された」動的密度が高くなり、地縁性の高い公共空間が実現しうることを示した。これにより、シカゴ派的都市論やマルクス派の階層分析とは異なる新たな地域研究の視点も提示することができた。これらの地域では、非通念的な市民文化を移植するだけでなく、格差拡大と閉鎖性を抑えながら地縁的・通念的な価値を更新し、住民間の合意を得ながら市民活動を活性化する方途も有効であることが示唆される。
