Outline of Annual Research Achievements

これまでの我々の研究では、主に視覚刺激を用いて研究を進めてきた。しかしながら、我々が時間情報を用いる場合、その情報は聴覚から得られることが多い(例:音楽、ダンス)。また先行研究では視覚と聴覚における時間知覚のメカニズムは独立であるとする証拠が示されている一方で、これらが同一の神経メカニズムによるものであるとする証拠も存在する。そのため、本研究ではまず行動実験において特定の速さの「ビート」(一定の時間間隔で繰り返し呈示される聴覚刺激)に順応することによりその後に呈示されるビートの速さが変化するかを確かめ、さらに脳機能イメージングを用いてその主観的なビート知覚に関わる神経基盤を同定するための実験パラダイムを策定した。現在行動実験により予備データの収集を進めているところであり、引き続き検証を進める。
また、本年度はfMRIにより計測される脳活動のボクセル間の活動パターンを分析する「多変量パターン解析」を導入し、時間情報の相対表現に関する研究をさらに深堀りするため、実験を行った。先行研究では、時間長の脳内表現と数の脳内表現の相同性が指摘されていること、また、本仮説は時間長だけでなくドットの数といった数量の知覚一般についても共通する問題であること、また、多変量パターン解析は時間長に比べて数を用いた研究でよく確立されていることなどから、本研究ではまず、数の脳内表現についてこの仮説の検証を行い、それを踏まえた上で時間の脳内表現について同仮説の検証を行うことが合理的であると考えた。そこで本年度は、まず数の相対的な脳内表現の存在を明らかにするために実験を行い、その結果、補足運動野において数の相対表現が存在することが明らかとなった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

数から時間の相対表現に関する実験に移行し、fMRI実験を実施する。また、MEGあるいはfMRIを用いて、主観的なビート知覚に関わる神経基盤を同定するための実験を実施する。
