Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究ではJ-PARCハドロン実験施設でK中間子重水素原子のX線を世界初測定し、KbarN相互作用のアイソスピン依存性を理解することを目指している。令和3年度は引き続き、令和元年度に行ったテスト実験の結果を考慮して、K中間子ビームライン及びX線検出器システムの改善を進めた。
バックグラウンドの大幅低減のために本来の目的の1s準位への遷移X線に加え2p準位への遷移X線(1~2 keV)の同時計測を目指しているが、これらの低エネルギーのX線検出に関してミュオンビームを用いたテスト実験を行った。K中間子原子実験で用いる読み出し回路含めたX線検出装置を用いてミュオン重水素2p->1s遷移による2 keVのX線の検出に成功した。標的ガスとの間には低エネルギー用のX線透過窓を使用した。ペルチェ素子による冷却でおよそ240Kと高い動作温度であったためエネルギー分解能は200eV FWHM以上と悪かったが、バックグラウンドと分離して十分にシグナルを確認できた。K中間子実験ではX線の減衰を防ぐためにX線検出器を標的ガス中に設置する。令和3年度は引き続き、信号線取り出し方法を中心に低温高圧対応の標的容器の開発を進めた。モンテカルロシミュレーションを用いて検出器配置を含めた標的システムデザインの最適化も進め、実機を製作できる段階まで進んだ。
さらにK中間子原子の生成点を測定し標的周辺の物質からのバックグラウンドを低減するための飛跡検出器の開発を行った。本研究では円筒型ドリフトチェンバーをメインに飛跡検出を行うが、ビーム軸方向の位置分解能を向上させるため、内層にプラスチックシンチレーションファイバーによる検出器を加えることを計画している。
