Outline of Annual Research Achievements

宇宙線加速機構の解明を目標として、フェルミガンマ線宇宙望遠鏡と H.E.S.S. 大気チェレンコフ望遠鏡群を組み合わせた GeV から TeV にわたる広範囲のガンマ線観測、およびガンマ線放射天体のX線硬X線観測による研究を推進している。(a) 宇宙線電子・陽電子の加速源として注目されるパルサー星雲、(b) 銀河宇宙線の起源として有力視されている超新星残骸、(c) PeV を超えるエネルギーの宇宙線加速源の候補となる相対論的ジェット、などの研究テーマにおいて観測的・理論的研究を進めている。本年度の主要な研究実績は次の通りである。
(1) 赤方偏移 z=0.0785 という非常に近傍で発生したガンマ線バースト GRB190829A の残光からの超高エネルギーガンマ線放射の検出に成功し、X線と超高エネルギーガンマ線の時間変動に顕著な類似性が見られることを示した。本研究成果はガンマ線バーストの相対論的ジェットにおける粒子加速現象に新たな謎を提示する結果となり、H.E.S.S.コラボレーションからプレスリリースを発出した。本研究グループの Dmitry Khangulyan 氏が理論検討を担当し、責任著者となっている。
(2) 超新星残骸G350.1-0.3のチャンドラ衛星・すざく衛星によるX線観測データを用いて、X線ラインのドップラーシフトやイメージ解析による移動速度の測定を行い、非常に非対称な爆発をしたと推定される超新星の残骸のイジェクタ運動学を詳細に研究した。また、チャンドラ衛星によるX線観測データを用いたカシオペア座A南東領域の爆発噴出物逆転層の起源についての研究を進め、論文を投稿した。
(3) かに星雲からの GeV ガンマ線フレアを説明する理論モデルを構築するため、放射損失で電子加速が制限される環境におけるシンクロトロン放射についての理論的研究を行った。

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

ガンマ線バースト GRB190829A の残光からの超高エネルギーガンマ線放射の検出に成功し、X線と超高エネルギーガンマ線の時間変動に顕著な類似性が見られることを示した論文("Revealing x-ray and gamma ray temporal and spectral similarities in the GRB 190829A afterglow", H.E.S.S. Collaboration, Science, June 2021)では、本研究グループの Dmitry Khangulyan 氏が理論検討を担当し、責任著者となっている。
これはガンマ線バーストにおける粒子加速のこれまでの描像を変えうる予想外の観測結果であり、H.E.S.S.コラボレーションからプレスリリースが発出された。これは当初の想定以上の研究成果と言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

宇宙線電子・陽電子の加速源として注目されるパルサー星雲、銀河宇宙線の起源として有力視されている超新星残骸、PeV を超えるエネルギーの宇宙線加速源の候補となる相対論的ジェット、の観測的・理論的研究についての研究を進める。

超新星残骸の無衝突衝撃波における衝撃波統計加速によって銀河宇宙線が加速されるとする説が有力視されているが、この仮説において重要なポイントである超新星残骸がいわゆる “PeVatron” であるか否かの検証は未だにできていない。本研究課題でのこれまでの研究で、X線観測から若年の超新星残骸に関する拡散係数の系統的な推定をおこない、加速効率についての推定結果を得ることができた。今後の研究では、さらにフェルミ衛星およびH.E.S.S.望遠鏡による超新星残骸のガンマ線観測により、拡散係数の定量化および宇宙線の逃走過程の観測的研究を進める。特に最近傍の超新星残骸の一つである Vela 超新星残骸に着目し、フェルミ衛星による長期ガンマ線観測データを活かして、ガンマ線放射の探査を行う。

また、銀河系外起源の宇宙線の加速源の候補であるガンマ線バーストにおける粒子加速機構を解明するため、H.E.S.S.望遠鏡による超高エネルギーガンマ線の観測データの解析および理論モデルの検証を行う。 本研究課題でのこれまでの研究で、ガンマ線バーストにおける粒子加速およびそれに伴うガンマ線放射が、これまでのモデルでは説明が困難であることが示唆されている。今後の研究で、観測事例を増やし、この新たな問題へ迫ることを目指す。
