Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度において、層状複水酸化物(LDH)ナノシート分散液を用い、マイクロスケールの薄膜を製膜し、膜面垂直方向のイオン伝導度を大幅に向上する試みを行なった。ナノシート分散液と共沈法で合成したLDHナノプレートレット(ナノ粒子)を混合させ、濾過プロセスにより複合膜を調製した。複合膜にナノ粒子を組み込むことによって、ナノシートが再積層する際の平行配向度を低減することができ、イオン伝導経路とネットワークを効果的に形成する。その結果、LDHナノシートのみ積層する場合に比べ、複合膜における二次元的な伝導異方性が顕著に改善された。LDHナノシートとナノ粒子の含有率を調整し、複合膜において面内方向のオン伝導度を10-1 S/cm程度に維持しながら、垂直方向の伝導度が10-2 S/cmまで向上することを確認した。
また、遷移金属の配位環境と価数の制御により、4配位と6配位、2価と3価が混在しているCo2+-Fe3+水酸化物ナノコーンを創製した。Co2+-Fe3+水酸化物ナノコーンは電極触媒として酸素発生反応(OER)においての過電圧が小さく、特に優れたTOF(ターンオーバー頻度)を有することを明らかにした。
これまで合成してきたNi-FeやCo-Fe LDHにおいて、Fe含有量は触媒能に大きな影響を及ぼすことを示唆している。これに基づき、高品質の単一鉄組成Fe2+-Fe3+ LDHの合成を新たに着手した。均一沈澱法を用いることにより、空気を厳密に排除した環境の中でブルーサイト様水酸化第一鉄(Fe(OH2))の高結晶性六角形プレートレットを合成した。Fe(OH2)サンプルにヨウ素(I2)処理を施し、Fe2+を部分的酸化すると同時に、ヨウ素イオン(I-)がインターカレートされるFe2+-Fe3+ LDH結晶にトポケミカル的に変換することに成功した。

Reason

LDHナノシートとナノ粒子の複合膜を調製することによって、薄膜面内方向の高いオン伝導度を維持しながら、膜面垂直方向の伝導度を10-2 S/cmまで向上することができた。目標の10-1 S/cmという高伝導率を持つイオン伝導膜の創製に向けて、大きな進展が得られたと言える。
層状複水酸化物の金属組成をチューニングするとともに、配位環境と原子価の制御を行なうことによって、4/6配位と2/3価が混在しているCo2+-Fe3+水酸化物ナノコーンの創製に初めて成功した。酸素発生反応電極触媒としての活性が高く、優れたTOFを有することから、ナノ構造の高度制御により触媒能の向上につながる手かがりを得た。今後、単一鉄組成Fe2+-Fe3+ LDHの合成および特性評価を進めることによって、Fe活性サイトの触媒反応過程およびメカニズムの解明が期待される。
上述の成果から、ナノシートを用いたイオン伝導膜の開発及び高度なナノ構造デザインによる遷移金属触媒の創製に向けて順調に進展していると考える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

引き続き、LDHナノシート分散液を用いたマイクロスケールの薄膜やフィルムの調製を行なう。LDHナノシートとナノ粒子の複合膜の成膜条件を最適化する一方、ナノシートをビニルアルコールなどのモノマーとの重合により、高分子骨格を有する無機ナノシート・有機樹脂の複合膜を作製する。厚さ数μm~数十μmの大面積(cmサイズ)イオン伝導膜の加工手法や作製プロセスの確立に向けて、機械的性質・力学的特性を評価しながら、主要な伝導経路である膜面垂直方向において高いイオン伝導度の達成を目指す。
同時に、新型層状複水酸化物Fe2+-Fe3+ LDHの合成および単層剥離によるナノシート化に関する研究を重点的に進める。Fe2+-Fe3+ LDHナノシートの触媒活性を系統的に評価するとともに、Fe活性サイトの反応過程およびメカニズムの解明に努める。さらに、ナノシートと2次元物質同士(グラフェン、MoS2、MXeneなど)と分子レベルの複合化により超格子材料を構築する。超格子内部のヘテロ接合界面における電荷移動および電子構造の調節に着目して、安価な電極触媒として貴金属代替可能な高性能の実現を目指す。
作製したイオン伝導膜および電極触媒をアセンブルし、膜ー電極集合体として発電や水電解試験を行なう。本研究課題の最終目標であるアルカリ環境の中で作動する燃料電池や水電解セルなどのエネルギー変換技術の創出に繋げていく。
