Outline of Annual Research Achievements

社会基盤の骨格とも言える構造用金属材料には、高い強度と大きな延性が同時に要求される。しかし、“Considere's criterion”が19世紀の終わりに発表されて以来、金属材料の強度と延性は理論上、両立しない性質であり、両者は二律背反であることが常識とされてきた。
これに対し、研究代表者は「調和組織材料」の創製に成功し、調和組織材料が高強度と高延性を両立する普遍的な性質を有することを示した。そして、調和組織材料の研究を進める中で、通常の均一材料には見られない様々な特異現象が見つかった。本研究では、多彩な学術分野の研究者が結集し、ミクロからマクロに拡がる転位/粒界/周期構造の関連性を系統的に明らかにすることを目指し、調和組織材料の「高強度と高延性・高靱性の両立」をはじめとする様々な特異な力学特性を、大型放射光施設や最先端の力学特性・組織解析手法を駆使して解明しつつある。
これまでの特筆すべき成果として、「シナジー硬化現象」や「新たな延性発現機構」を見出した。「シナジー硬化(Synergy Extra Hardening)」は、従来のHall-Petch関係に依らない、特異な強度上昇が見られる現象である。また、「新たな延性発現機構」とは、強度が上昇すれば全伸びに占める局部伸びが低下する、という従来常識に反して、高強度化しても局部伸びは低下せず、その結果、高延性に結びつく現象で、加工硬化の増大による延性増加とは異なる、新しい延性発現機構である。「降伏とは何か?」、「延性とは何か?」という学術的に意義深い問いを改めて突きつける成果が得られた。これまでの材料科学の知識・常識を打ち破るパラダイムシフトが期待できる成果である。

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

以下のような計画以上の進展があった。
(1)「シナジー硬化現象」の発見。
「新たな延性発現機構」を見出した。「シナジー硬化(Synergy Extra Hardening)」は従来のHall-Petch関係に依らない、特異な強度上昇が見られる現象である。
(2)「新たな延性発現機構」の発見。高強度化すれば全伸びに占める局部伸びが低下する、という従来常識に反して、高強度化しても局部伸びは低下せず、その結果、高延性に結びつく現象を見出した。加工硬化の増大による延性増加とは異なる、新しい延性発現機構である。
(3)「バイモーダルミリング法(BiM方)」の創出。新たな、高効率な調和組織制御方法を確立した。
「降伏とは何か?」、「延性とは何か?」という学術的に意義深い問いを改めて突きつける成果が得られた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

様々な材料系、特に、結晶構造、積層欠陥エネルギー、単相・複相、といった違いに着目して、研究を加速する予定である。調和組織材料の準静的力学特性評価、動的力学特性評価、変形の温度依存性評価、大型放射光(Spring-8)による変形その場解析、MD・FEMによる計算材料科学からの検討、等々を実施していく。
同時に、国際共同研究をこれまで以上に展開することで、国際連携ネットワークをさらに拡げ、若手研究者の育成・交流を推進させて行く。実際に、スエーデン、ならびに中国とのJSPS2国間共同研究への展開も進行中であり、今後さらに国際連携を進めていく。
