Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、光触媒における酸素欠陥と光触媒活性の関連性を明らかにすることを目的としている。平成31年度までの研究で、酸素欠陥濃度及び電子濃度を制御した酸化物半導体光触媒を用いて、フェルミ準位やバンド構造の電気化学的パラメータによって光触媒活性変化を説明できることを明らかにした。本年度は、電気化学的パラメータによる光触媒活性の解釈を応用した可視光応答性材料である、タンタルと窒素を共ドープした酸化チタンを用いて、マイクロ波加熱合成法を検討した。それにより、水分解反応における太陽光エネルギーの水素への変換効率を、従来の2倍に向上することに成功した。
さらに、これまでの酸素欠陥濃度を制御した酸化物半導体光触媒における、電気化学的パラメータによる解釈は、材料のバルク特性に特化していたことから、表面の酸素欠陥が光励起キャリアに及ぼす影響について検討した。ルテニウム錯体色素を半導体表面に吸着し、その発光寿命を調べることで、半導体表面における励起キャリアの捕捉効果を調べた。その結果、酸素欠陥濃度の上昇によって光励起キャリアの捕捉が促進されることと、電子濃度の上昇によってその捕捉が抑制されることを明らかにした。ルテニウム錯体色素をプローブとした表面欠陥の調査法によって、欠陥が持つエネルギーレベルを特定することが出来ることも明らかにした。
また、ストロンチウム・亜鉛酸硫化物材料を用いて、紫外光照射下での水分解反応を調査した。この材料は、水中での光反応に不安定な亜鉛酸化物に、ストロンチウムイオン・硫化物イオンを共存させることで、水中での安定性の向上を図った。それにより、亜鉛酸化物系材料では初めて、水から水素と酸素を触媒的に生成することに成功した。
