|Outline of Annual Research Achievements
In this research year, the strategies of H2 production and CO2 mineralization by olivine serpentinization and carbonation have been successfully combined in the CO2-rich hydrothermal system. The effects of various reaction conditions have been investigated and published in 2 Journal papers and 6 conferences.
Higher NaHCO3 concentration significantly promoted H2 generation, the results were summarized in the paper published in "Journal of CO2 utilization(IF:6.141)" and international conference of "ISOPE-2018". The effects of temperature were summarized in the paper accepted by "International Journal of Hydrogen Energy (IF: 4.229)".
The high H2 production we realized now can support further CO2 hydrogenation with addition of mineral catalyst.
|Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
The research we proposed before was the CO2 hydrogenation with the utilization of mineral catalysts in a hydrothermal georeactor. The topic is still included in our research; however, the research contents have expanded now. To facilitate hydrocarbon generation, H2 production is very important, which is also one kind of clean energy.
One year has been taken to elevate the H2 production from olivine alteration, and significant achievements have been made. The results has been summarized in 2 journal papers and 3 conference papers.
Also, the effect of mineral catalysts (e.g., magnetite and chromite) we proposed before have been experimentally studied and will be summarized in the next research year.
So I think the research was conducted well, although not all of the contents are in the plan.
|Strategy for Future Research Activity
1) The catalytic abilities of magnetite and chromite were not good according to the present data, so the effect of other mineral catalysts will be further studied, include the operation conditions, such as dosage, loading position.
2) H2 can be produced during olivine alteration under CO2-rich conditions. However, olivine in the natural geological setting is commonly associated with pyroxene, the influence is still poorly understood and will be studies in the next research year.
3) Simulation. After getting the experimental data, we plan to build models to simulate the reaction process, such as how the heat accumulated and how the minerals be formed, which can explained the feasibility of field application.
4) Doctor thesis writing and final presentation preparation.
