Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The Kashima family donated a group of materials mainly from the late Edo period to Usuki City, and we have conducted a comprehensive survey, catalogued and published information on the condition of the materials and their transmission to the city. The core of the materials are the writings of Kashima Hidekuni, the collection of books and artifacts he left behind. Kashima was a man of varied interests and activities. Above all, his writings, which record miscellaneous information on the history, geography, and customs of Usuki in the late Edo period, are expected to be utilized and clarified in the future. Among these materials, we have newly introduced a record of a trip between Usuki and Nagasaki at the end of the Edo period ("Nagasaki Dochu Nikki") and a letter that reveals an exchange with a haikai master. A geographical journal of Usuki, "Usuki Hakushikishi" is also an interesting material, which will be introduced later.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
