| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research aims to uncover the history of immigrant transitions and the possibilities of assimilation within American culture in the south. This research focuses specifically on Asian immigrants within immigrant literature, merging literary studies with sociological research to propose a new direction for literary studies that connects Asian immigrants with the American South, a connection that has been largely unexplored. I was able to establish a cycle of research, presentations, and publications aligned with the research theme. This included three presentations at international conferences (one of which was online due to the COVID-19 pandemic), moderating and presenting at a symposium of the American Literature Society of Japan, three monographs published overseas, two papers published domestically, and one book review.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究によって、アメリカで最も保守的だと考えられているアメリカ南部の文学形式において、人種主義による抑圧と搾取の歴史がどのような経緯で起き、また、それが形を変えて人種的不寛容を生む仕組みを考察することができた。また、白人対黒人という二項対立による限定的な社会の仕組みを捉えるのでは十分ではなく、アジア系移民、そしてアジア系の難民が新天地である南部においてどのように貢献してきたか、をシチズンシップ研究や冷戦との関係から研究することにより、広くアメリカ帝国主義とアジアとの関係を明らかにすることができた。
