| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The actual usage of Japanese negative expressions in spoken Japanese was clarified based on a corpus survey. Basic negation accounted for about 67% of the total, followed by the "dewanaika" and "nodewanaika", and then the modality expressions. Both "dewanaika", which evokes or requests the listener's perception, and "nodewanaika", which expresses the speaker's expectation, are indirect, but at the same time, they are expressions that give a strong impression to the listener as "negation" or "question". Speakers take advantage of indirectness, but tend to soften their expressions by inverting and adding final particles. As for "wakeniwaikanai", I noted that in about half of the examples, the expression of reason followed. The study also revealed the reality of deviant expressions related to negation in J-pop lyrics.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
会話の場所や地域などが異なる複数のコーパスを使い、話し言葉における広義の否定表現の使用実態を明らかにすることができた。これは基本的データとして日本語教育などに活用できるものである。使用の多かった「ではないか」「のではないか」の調査、及び「わけにはいかない」の調査によって、否定表現について、どのような形の文で使われるのか、どのような文脈で使われるのかといった観点からの考察が重要であることを明らかにできた。また、Ｊポップを資料とした調査と考察から、否定に関わる逸脱表現の実態も明らかにできた。これらは、日本語における否定表現の研究の今後の発展につながるものである。
