Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study, which mainly covers the 16th century, aims at clarifying firstly how the literary culture of samurai families, such as Imagawa, developed in the Tokai region, and secondly how Kemari meets in Kyoto spread. To achieve these goals, we take the following steps on the basis of prior studies of the political process in the Tokai region during the Sengoku period as well as of recent research in the field of Japanese literature. First, we offer a dynamic view of the literary activity such as waka and renga poetry in the Imagawa family. Second, we reveal the relation between the Imagawas’ literary activity and that of samurai families in Northern Ise, Owari, and Mikawa. Third, we show the list of the Kemari meets held in Kyoto in the 16th century. And finally, we investigate how Kemari meets spread in Kyoto, which is unclear so far, focusing on the communication between court nobles and samurai families through Kemari.
