| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study considers and evaluates the historical development of regional development centered on the clan, mainly targeting the northern part of Yamashiro from the Kofun period to the Heian period.
Ancient clans such as Mr. Hata live in the target area of this research, and while being involved with public authority, they are active throughout the ages as a development entity. This study considers the regional development of the northern part of Yamashiro before and after the relocation of Nagaokakyo and Heiankyo, utilizing historical materials of temples and shrines. Regarding the target area, there is a heavy accumulation of research and research in adjacent sciences such as archeology and historical geography. In this study, we aimed at a level that would serve as a model for ancient regional history research, based on our experience in interdisciplinary research in the fields of metropolitan castle system, temple history, and garden history.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
日本古代の地域開発史に関しては、都城制研究と村落史研究において研究の蓄積がある。しかし、両者を総合する試みは、西大寺所蔵絵図を活用した研究など、平城京・周辺域で部分的に実施されているに過ぎない。長岡京・平安京周辺地域に関していえば、良質な自治体史は存在するものの総じて研究が遅れている。本研究の研究成果の意義は大きい。
研究代表者は、出土文字史料の解読調査等を通じて、京都市・近郊地域の調査・研究機関の構成員と日常的に交流し、地域に即した研究・教育を実践しているている。本研究は、長期的視座に立ち、そうした活動の基盤形成を図ったものでもある。
