| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study is legal research on the treatment of personal information and privacy in the process of commercialization of automated (self-driving) automobiles. With the advent of Internet connectivity, automobiles may be connected to social networking services, and the handling of personal information and privacy has become more complex.
The results of this research include the following: international standards for automated driving do not necessarily clarify the handling of personal information of owners, managers, drivers, and passengers; the legal position of personal information of passengers in cabs and buses is unclear; and laws and regulations regarding the handling of personal information after the death of stakeholders in automated driving vehicles are unclear. The study was able to clarify that the laws and regulations regarding the handling of personal information of the stakeholders of automated vehicles are unclear and require legal reform.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
自動運転の自動車は、すでに日本においても公道上の走行が法的に認められている。また自動運転のバス（運転手無し）も、一部の地域において実証実験ではなく正式運行として供用されている。今後、少子高齢化や人手不足、地方の過疎化などの影響により、ますます自動運転の自動車やタクシー、バスが増加するものと予想される。その際、国際的に強化されつつある個人情報の保護やプライバシーの保護の強化の動向と、自動運転の自動車を安全に走行させるための規制を調和させるための法整備を進めることは、不可欠である。
本研究は、そのような法整備を進める上で、多くの課題や知見を提供した点で大きな意義を有する。
