| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The network of concurrently serving executives among companies in Niigata Prefecture during the Meiji 25-44 period was found to be regional in nature. It is not always easy to form a network if there are many wealthy people or if the population is large and dense. The way the network is connected depends largely on the type of industry in each area and the means of transportation, such as roads, steamships, and railroads. As for the reasons for the formation of networks, many of the respondents were samurai, and the influence of cross-industrial exchange and school connections was significant.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
従来の研究では、産業史あるいは近代史で質的研究でしか行えなかったことを、１）どのようなつながり方をしているのかを客観的に見えるような形にした。２）歴史GISを使うことによって時系列で街道、川船、鉄道、橋が整備されることによって、つながり方の変化を明らかにした。学術的には、地理的環境の有利不利となる要因を明らかにし、無意識に起業家はどのようなネットワークを形成し行動するのか、個々人の努力だけでできる範囲を明らかにした。
これにより、社会インフラをどのように整備したら企業家がネットワークを形成しやすくなるかのヒントを導き出すことができた。中長期的には、「まちおこし」の計画に応用できると考える。
