| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research empirically investigates how inter-firm relations, such as vertical keiretsu and long-term relationships, affect inter-firm transactions, drawing on a panel data set over 32 years on component transactions between OEMs and suppliers in the Japanese automotive industry. Our statistical analysis shows that while many keiretsu suppliers had shrunk their role since the early 2000s, some, particularly Toyota’s, had maintained their role. The result indicates a possible mechanism to maintain keiretsu relations, where keiretsu suppliers could survive through improving competitive advantage and expanding customer scope. This research also conducted a questionnaire survey with Japanese suppliers and revealed some relations between oversea and domestic transactions.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
学術的意義として、第一に、部品取引の全容を32年にわたって捉えた長期パネルデータを整備し、系列関係が取引に及ぼす影響についてハイブリッド法による推計を行ない、データの範囲と質、設定した被説明変数、推計手法において、既存研究にはない、有意義な成果を生み出したことが挙げられる。また、従来、分析が限られていた海外の取引と国内の取引の関係に関する一次データを収集したことも重要な成果となっている。企業経営にとって系列関係の意味や国際的な取引関係のあり方は重要な検討課題であり、本研究の成果はこれらの課題に関する経営判断に資する材料を提供するという意味で、社会的にも有意義なものである。
